Breast reconstruction

Restore shape, balance, and self-esteem.

About the treatment

Breast reconstruction is a surgical treatment aimed at restoring the shape of the breast after tissue removal, most commonly as a result of breast cancer, trauma, or previous surgeries. The procedure can be performed in conjunction with a mastectomy or at a later date, and is always tailored to the patient's individual needs and circumstances.

We offer several modern techniques to achieve a natural and balanced result, whether the breast is reconstructed using implants, autologous fat, tissue flaps, or a combination of these. The nipple and areola can also be reconstructed surgically or through medical tattooing.

When is breast reconstruction relevant?

Breast reconstruction may be relevant after a mastectomy or partial mastectomy, also known as breast-conserving surgery, as well as after the surgical removal of a tumor in connection with breast cancer. Reconstruction can also be an option after the removal of implants or in cases of capsular contracture where the shape of the breast has changed.

In some cases, the treatment is relevant for congenital deformities, after trauma, or for asymmetry and loss of shape that has occurred after weight loss or previous surgical procedures.

Plastic surgery is not just about aesthetics, but also about restoring symmetry, function, and self-esteem. At Novokliniken, we look at the whole picture and tailor the treatment based on each patient's individual needs and circumstances.

Methods for breast reconstruction

We use several surgical methods for breast reconstruction, often based on the principles of breast augmentation, breast lift, and breast reduction, with the goal of replacing lost tissue and recreating a natural shape.

Implant-based reconstruction involves placing silicone implants or a surgical mesh to restore the breast's volume and contour. In autologous reconstruction, the patient's own tissue, usually from the abdomen or back, is used to build a new breast with a natural feel and shape.

Fat grafting can be used as a standalone method or as a complement to other techniques to improve symmetry and refine the result. Nipple reconstruction can be performed surgically or with the help of medical tattooing to recreate as natural an appearance as possible.
